Entry of Delta + variant of Corona in Gujarat

Entry of Delta + variant of Corona in Gujarat

What is the Delta-Plus variant?

The double mutant strain B.1.617.2 of the corona virus found in India has been named Delta by the World Health Organization.

Another mutation in B.1.617.2 is K417N, which was previously seen in beta and gamma variants of Corona virus.  The variant formed after the new mutation is called Delta + variant or AY.1 or B.1.617.2.1.  This variant with the K417N mutation is more contagious than the original virus.

Vaccines and drugs can weaken the effect.  The Delta variant (B.1.617.2) actually came out of the B.1.617 lineage.  There are two more variants - B.1.617.1 and B.1.617.3, in which B.1.617.1 has been listed by the WHO as a variant of interest (VOI) and named Kappa.

The pace of the second wave of Corona virus in the country is slowing down, but concerns over the new variant are growing.  The delta variant of the Covid-19 is a growing threat in India.  Two cases of Delta Plus have also come up in Gujarat.  The Union Ministry of Health has confirmed the entry of Corona Delta Plus in Gujarat in a public press conference.
